Get Him To The Greek

Get Him To The Greek is my subject of choice. I had been wanting to see it since I first saw the commercials as I love Russel Brand as well as Jonah Hill. Be warned, there are some spoilers, a little. I think.

Synopsis: After Sergio (P. Diddy) announces that the music industry is failing, he calls for a meeting with his associates. At his meeting, Aaron Green (Superbad's Jonah Hill) comes up with an idea to invite Aldous Snow(Forgetting Sarah Marshall's Russel Brand) to a reunion concert to boost sales. Aldous used to be the pinnacle of rock until the release of his album African Child. This album was actually rated as the third worst thing for Africans. It was below famine and war. Anyhow, the rest of the movie involves Aaron trying to get drugged up Aldous to this concert, on the way he gets drugged, hit by cars, and just run into the ground.

Review I LOVED THIS MOVIE. This movie was absolutely hilarious. Russel Brand does a beautiful job of playing this drugged up, washed out, rockstar. Even Better was Jonah Hill's work. The man was so funny just trying to keep up with the crazy things that Russel threw at him. I was annoyed though. The ad campaigns were horrible. They had all these scenes that weren't even in the movie. Not in the credits, or after or anything! For example: This commercial.

There was absolutely no scene where P. Diddy says anything about the adrenaline needle. Anyhow, that aside, It was a good movie. Let's see the breakdown.

Acting: As mentioned numerous times before, Jonah Hill and Russel Brand were a fantastic duo. They just did an absolutely superb job. 5/5
Plot: Though I can't think of any examples, I seem to recall this idea being recycled, but it managed to keep it interesting. So 4/5
Script: This movie had hilarious dalogue with some great catch lines. My favorite is when after being told to smoke this weird drug, he then strokes a furry wall. It was awesome. But, I was annoyed with the excessive swearing. So 4/5
Directing Style: The director.Nicholas Stoller, is the same director of forgetting Sarah Marshall. So naturally, the directing style is quite similar. Both of these movies have a lot of sex references but are still really funny. 4/5
Cast I've already mentioned this but the cast was outstanding. They all did great, but I was a little surprised at the new Jonah Hill. He really grew up, but also got much fatter. But I suppose that happens with age. Russle, though, has managed to stay the same as he was in Forgetting Sarah Marshal. They even make several mentions to that movie. 5/5

So overall Get Him to The Greek got 22/25, which is still a great score. The only downsides was the constant obscenities, making a movie you wouldn't see with your mother. I highly recommend this one

Am I the only one?!

This review is going to be about the worldwide success known as Avatar.

Synopsis: These movie is about a far off world that is inhabited by the locals known as the Na'Vi. After humanity has used up its resources it ventures to the far off land of Pandora to mine it of the resource known as unobtanium, But the locals disagree, and the whole plot goes from there.
Sorry that was so short, but I've been told that I give away the plot, and that wouldn't be too hard on this movie.

Review: I despised this movie. It cost too much and it had too much hype. The movie had a boring plot, the technology in the movie was completely unoriginal. The whole point of the movie was to distract you from its cheesy plot with extreme graphics.

Ratings:
  1. Acting: This movie would have been great if there was acting. All of it was voice acting to its 3D rendering. The only redeeming factor was the main antagonist, the general. 3/5
  2. Plot: Geez, don't even get me started. The plot of this movie was Pocohontas. Yes, that's right. Disney's Pocohontas. Just think about it, and you will understand. 2/5
  3. Script: This movie was filled with cheesy one liners, and for that matter almost no dialogue. It was all visualization and extended scenes. 2/5
  4. Directing Style: James Cameron is quite the visionary and succeeded in making a visually stunning movie. 5/5
  5. Cast: This movie had a great cast. Featuring a great like the fantastic Sigourney Weaver. Also, the general was pretty awesome, but this movie had a small cast and it consisted mostly of voice acting. 4/5
16/25. Yeah, that's right it isn't a perfect score. I honestly did not like this movie, as it combines what I hate about what moviemaking has become. They figure you just throw money at it, and it will do great. Go figure

Up in The Air

Before I being, you are going to notice that my ratings have changed. The reason for this, is over and over I have found certain movies don't apply to certain things. So instead of camera quality, you will see directing quality. I will explain when you get down there.

Synopsis: In the move Up in The Air you follow the story of Ryan Bingham( played by George Clooney), who travels 300 days a year for his job. His job is to fire people. Along the way, he meets a spectacular woman named Alex. When Ryan meets Alex, he realizes that instead of living a life of connections, he should do the exact opposite.

Review: Wow. I now understand why this movie was so called "critically acclaimed". This movie does what most dream to do, which is touch you. It makes you think about what you are doing with your life, and what you could be doing. George Clooney did the job of a lifetime in portraying this, and what it would be like to go through such an uprooting idea. This movie was funny, sad, tragic, and uplifting all at the same time.

Ratings: I ope now that you will see I have changed my rating style, just because sometimes it does not work for certain movies.
  1. Plot: This movie had a great plot that was filled with twists and surprises, that kept you enthralled throughout. 5/5
  2. Directing Quality:(See the change?) Up in The Air is directed by Jason Reitman, who directed Juno. Jason Reitmans directing style applied flawlessly to the movie type. He managed to keep it funny, while it stilled maintained an almost uplifting story line. 5/5
  3. Cast:(I'm getting rid of music. Just didn't seem important as far as movies go) This movie had stars such as George looney, Jason Bateman, and Anna Kendrick. This was one of Anna Kendrick's first roles, and one of the best. 5/5
  4. Script: This movie featured witty dialogue that was combined with modern times, showing you how much the work environment has changed.
  5. Acting: As mentioned earlier, the cast in this movie all performed superbly. Anna Kendrick played a new but unsure woman who learned that she had a lot to learn. All actors did fantastic.5/5
Sigh, another perfect score. I apologize, but this movie was truly fantastic. It kept you guessing, and really changed your perception on life. This was possible only because of the amazing acting ability, as well as the great directing styles.

I apologize, but I can't put a trailer in this one, for legal purposes.

Back To The Future

Today, I am going to a friends house, and he has committed a crime that is completely unforgivable in the movie watcher world. He hasn't seen Back to The Future. Just the mere idea of someone not watching that movie is completely audacious, so we will watch it tonight. Hence this review.

Synopsis: This movie is about a teenage boy who lives in a small town in the 80;s. His mad scientist friend has built a time machine, and Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox), has been accidentally sent back in time. In the 50's, he must make his parents meet, or he will cease to exist.

Rating:
  1. Plot: This movie was not the first of its kind as far as time traveling goes, but the plot itself was Grade-A fantastic. This is the movie that revolutionized the sci-fi genre. So 5/5
  2. Camera quality/Shots: This movie was packed with tons of amazingly memorable scenes, such as the famous 88 miles per hour. So 5/5
  3. Music: As most movies in the 80's it featured a spectacular soundtrack. 5/5
  4. Script: Back to the future is filled with non-stop quotes that are used to this day.It contained such memorable ones as"Great Scott" and "This is heavy" 5/5
  5. Acting: This was one of the first Michael J. Fox films, and it put him straight on the map. This movie also included greats like Christopher Lloyd and LEa Thompson, all who performed magnificently. 5/5
This concludes this review, and Back to the Future scored another Perfect 25/25. This movie had great special effects, a fantastic plot, and excellent work by the actors.

P.S. I know I haven't written many reviews, but most of the ones I have, have scored perfectly. This is not a pattern, I just don't watch movies that suck. If I ever get a following of some sort, I will probably start a crappy movie review every week, just to spice things up.

Alice in Wonderland

Well this movie isn't really new per say, but It's recent, and I thought I would express my opinion on it.

Synopsis: This movie is a sequel to the famous Alice In Wonderland. Now, Alice, being plagued with nightmares and dreams of her last visit, returns to Wonderland again, now much older. This time, she must help the mad-hatter escape from the clutches of the evil queen.

Review: Ugh, what a genuinely boring movie. This movie just seemed to lull on with absolutely nothing intriguing. No edge on your seat, no particularly witty dialogue, no character progression. Just nothing. This movie is just boring.

Rating:
1.Plot: This movie had a horribly boring plot, that seemed to lack the wonder of Tim Burton's previous films. It just seemed to go on and on, and there is no twist, no change, or anything. 2/5
2.Camera Quality: This movie was primarily animated, but the animation was superb. Though I didn't see it in 3D, because I never do, I had read it was very shift, but I can't include that. So quality, 5/5
3.Music: This movie didn't have anything that really caught my attention, or that I can remember, so 4/5.
4.Script: Amazingly boring script. No wittiness, or the "epic-osity" of most Tim Burton films. So 2/5
5.Acting: The actors in the film stunk, they seemed downright bored. Kind of like Kristin Stewart. The only redemption was Johnny Depps creepy acting ability. So 3/5

This movie scored 16/25, which is an OK movie. It had several downfalls, it's major two being its poor acting and boring plot.

How to Train Your Dragon 2D!

Before I begin this review, I decide to take this opportunity to give you my opinion on 3D movie viewing. I hate it! I think it's the most distracting thing in a movie, and it is usually used to make people not realize how stupid a movie is. Granted, some movies are good, even with 3D, but its still bleeding annoying. I never watch movies in 3D, for two reasons. One, I don't have a job, so i have no money, and 3D costs more. Second, It is distracting, and you wear big goofy glasses. Anyhow, back to the review

Synopsis: How to Train Your Dragon is about a small viking boy (voiced by Tropic Thunder's Jay Baruchel), who is quite different from the whole village. This boy is constantly in the shadow of his father ( voiced by Gerard butler), the greatest dragon killer of his village. One fine night, he finally manages to find a dragon. Unfortunately, unable to kill the dragon, he quickly befriends it and starts to lead a life full of complication.

Review: I was very interested to see if Dreamworks had anything interesting to contribute, especially after their last success of Kung Fu Panda. As the movie starts, you can tell that Dreamworks has stepped things up. The animation is superb, with FANTASTIC visuals. But, as Avatar has showed us, visuals don't make a movie. Luckily, the viewer is provided with excellent story telling and great characters. The plot is as cookie cutter as it gets, and predictable too. But, because of the great characters and the humor, it proves to be appealing to both adults as well as children. 20/25

In conclusion, the movie performed well, marking it above most films with a score of 22/25. Its major downfalls was the cookie cutter plot as well as the standard background music.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Ok so this is my first review so I will give you the basic layout.

Synopsis: (This is the part where I give you the basic plot of the movie) This movie is a stop motion, animated film about a clever fox (voiced by Mr. George Clooney) who after leaving a life of crime, settles down and has a kid with his wife( voiced by Meryll Streep). Feeling poor, he decides to buy a new home that overlooks the factories of 3 mean farmers. Unable to resist the urge he decides to resort back to a life of crime. From then on, its chaos and hilarity.

Review: ( This is where I say my opinion on the movie) This movie had an animation style similar to Wallace and Gromit, but had its own special touch, giving the movie a warm feel to it. The animation is a bit jittery but the whole thing is stop motion, made by one man, so I excused it. The movie had great humor to it, as well as a great set of characters. This made for an hour and 30 minutes of pure fun and joy.

Rating: (Where I give it a score out of based on certain factors)
  1. Plot: The plot is the most important part of a movie as It keeps you interested or it bores you to tears, so it is very important.Luckily, this one had a great one, though similar to old fables. But since it is a new take on it, 5/5
  2. Camera quality: This rates how well the animation appeared, or the camera style showed up. This movie had a new animation style that was fresh and fun. 5/5
  3. Music: This rating is about the music in the movie. This movie wasn't heavy on music, but the music in it was light and fit the scene well. 5/5
  4. Script: This rating is a rating of the dialogue of the film. In this case, it performed superbly with witty responses and an interesting way to cover up obscenities. 5/5
  5. Acting ablity: Well this movie used voice acting, but they performed superbly with a great cast, so 5/5
So all in all, this movie did great with a 25 out of a possible 25.

Warming Up

Hello who ever is following this. I am a Kansas boy who has the passion for movies. I myself have seen thousands of movies, and I thought it would be interesting to see how many people agree with my opinion. Hence the creation of this blog. I will try to do modern movies, but every once in a while I will review an older one, or one I would recommend. So, any helpful criticism, movie ideas, or uplifting comments are appreciated. I will start posting right after this
